Red Hat Unveils Enterprise Linux for Business Developers to Align Application Development

Red Hat

Red Hat has unveiled Red Hat Enterprise Linux for Business Developers, a no‑cost, self‑service offering under its Developer Program aimed at empowering business‑unit developers to build, test and iterate applications directly on the same hardened, production‑grade Linux OS underlying enterprise hybrid‑cloud and edge systems. Through this program, registered users can allocate up to 25 RHEL instances whether physical, virtual or cloud‑based streamlining workflows without needing centralized IT provisioning. The move addresses escalating IT complexity stemming from physical, virtual, cloud and edge deployments, cloud‑native/AI workloads and emerging cybersecurity threats like supply‑chain attacks, underscoring the need for consistency from dev environments to production. The new RHEL for Business Developers includes access to curated and digitally‑signed developer content languages, tools and databases alongside powerful container tooling like Podman Desktop, enabling creation of bootable container images.

Developers can also purchase optional Red Hat Developer Support to leverage decades of enterprise Linux expertise. This offering complements Red Hat’s existing entitlement tiers: the no‑cost Developer Subscription for Individuals (for personal use) and the Developer Subscription for Teams (for enterprise via account reps). Summing up its impact, Gunnar Hellekson, VP & GM of Red Hat Enterprise Linux, stated: “Modern developers need to be able to move at their own pace to deliver innovative applications, but must do so without increasing friction with IT operations teams or production systems. Red Hat Enterprise Linux for Business Developers helps empower developers with direct access to the world’s leading enterprise Linux platform without having to move through centralized IT channels, giving them a more consistent, reliable foundation that aligns with the business’ demands for production‑readiness.” This new subscription is now generally available.
