Roche recently announced the launch of a large-scale AI factory in collaboration with NVIDIA. This is aimed at increasing Roche’s computing infrastructure to speed up the discovery of therapeutics and diagnostics. This comes after the company added 2,176 NVIDIA Blackwell GPUs to its infrastructure. This makes Roche’s environment the biggest announced hybrid cloud AI environment in the pharmaceutical industry, with over 3,500 GPUs worldwide. This is a result of a strategic partnership announced in 2023 and is in line with Roche’s aim of becoming an AI-driven healthcare organization.

This high-performance environment is aimed at helping Roche speed up drug discovery and trials. “In healthcare, time is the most critical variable; every day saved means a life-changing medicine or diagnostic reaches a patient sooner,” said Wafaa Mamilli, Roche’s Chief Digital and Technology Officer. The AI factory also enables the development of other innovations such as the use of digital twins in the manufacturing industry, AI pathology, and research models. By integrating AI into its processes, Roche hopes to improve its scientific discoveries and processes.
