Immuta Partners with Alation to Solve Data Access Gaps

Immuta

Immuta, a leader in data access provisioning, announced a new integration with Alation that links Alation’s Data Product Marketplace with Immuta’s automated data access workflows. Now generally available, the integration enables users to discover data products in Alation and request access through Immuta, reducing delays often caused by manual approvals and bureaucratic processes. By unifying workflows for requesters and approvers, the solution allows stakeholders to act in parallel, focusing on a single outcome: delivering fast, secure, and scalable data access.

This collaboration combines Alation’s Data Product Marketplace with Immuta’s policy enforcement engine and access approval workflows, offering a seamless experience for data consumers. Users can discover, request, and gain access to data through a streamlined, policy-driven workflow, removing the tickets, manual steps, and bottlenecks that often slow enterprise teams. The result is faster, secure access to data, with rigorous governance and auditability that scales to meet the growing demands of modern enterprises.

“Data discovery is only half the battle. Access is where things break down for organizations,” says Matt Carroll, CEO and co-founder of Immuta. “This integration addresses that. By combining Immuta’s automated provisioning with Alation’s marketplace, we’re streamlining the entire process–from discovery to access decisions–by eliminating the bureaucracy that slows data down. Too many people need to approve too many things. We make it simple and fast by using a combination of birthright access and request workflows, powered by AI, to automate most decisions and route the rest to the right person. And unlike others, we don’t just approve–we actually provision the data.”

While organizations have improved data cataloging and visibility, actual access remains a challenge. Legacy governance systems, manual approvals, and inconsistent policy enforcement can leave business users and AI agents waiting days or weeks. Often, delays are driven by IT service request tickets designed for application access, not data access.

“Bringing together Alation’s metadata-driven discovery with Immuta’s dynamic policy enforcement means users can now find and access trusted data in one seamless workflow,” says Jake Magner, senior director of product management at Alation. “It is a significant step forward for data teams aiming to scale governed, AI-ready access across the enterprise.”

The Immuta-Alation integration addresses growing pressure on data teams from increased data product adoption and AI initiatives. It eliminates the need for complex workarounds or over-provisioning by combining discovery and provisioning in a single, secure, automated workflow.

Key benefits of the integration include:

  • Centralized inventory with consistent policy management: Alation’s metadata catalog integrates directly with Immuta’s policy engine for end-to-end control.

  • Metadata-driven automation: Policies are applied dynamically without manual intervention.

  • Self-service access provisioning: Users receive approved access in minutes, eliminating prolonged waits.

  • Always-on auditing and monitoring: Every decision is logged for full compliance and traceability.

  • AI-enabled access decisions: Immuta’s Review Assist AI accelerates approvals and standardizes decisions across users and AI agents.

“The new Immuta capability embedded in Alation allows users at GRAIL to seamlessly discover data assets in the catalog and directly request access with a single click,” says Ganjanan Lankar, associate director of software engineering at GRAIL. “This streamlines the approval process by notifying approvers and leveraging Immuta’s automated risk-based recommendations. The integration reduces friction between discovery and access, enabling faster, compliant use of data for analysis.”

By unifying discovery and provisioning, Immuta and Alation are removing the last-mile friction in data access. Enterprises can now confidently scale self-service access, adopt data product and AI strategies, and unlock actionable insights immediately, without delays or compromise in governance.
