Phasecraft, a global leader in quantum algorithms, has introduced Mondrian, a groundbreaking quantum-enhanced software platform designed to accelerate classical optimisation algorithms and tackle complex constraint satisfaction problems across multiple industries.
Mondrian illustrates the potential of hybrid classical-quantum computing to address some of the most demanding optimisation challenges in sectors such as energy, finance, logistics, and beyond. The platform’s development was initially supported by a £1.2 million Quantum Catalyst Fund award from the UK Government. Phasecraft collaborated closely with the UK’s National Energy System Operator (NESO) during development, and Mondrian is currently undergoing testing with several industrial and academic partners.
Driving Smarter, Greener Energy Networks
In the energy sector, Mondrian addresses one of the UK’s most critical computational challenges: efficiently managing increasingly complex power grids amid rising demand, expanding renewable integration, and escalating infrastructure costs. The platform enables grid operators to optimise network efficiency, minimise energy losses, plan expansions, and strategically site renewables and sensors, contributing to a more resilient and sustainable energy ecosystem.
Mondrian leverages Phasecraft’s innovative “quantum-enhanced optimisation” method, which uses quantum algorithm outputs to accelerate classical algorithms. This approach delivers high-quality results on today’s error-prone quantum hardware and allows organisations to tackle problems too large or complex for current quantum systems alone.

Early trials indicate that Mondrian can achieve up to 1,000x speed-ups on optimisation problems relevant to real-world energy operations, including power exchange calculations, intentional islanding, and renewable resource placement. Its capabilities extend to similarly critical optimisation challenges in finance, logistics, communications networks, and other industries.
Ashley Montanaro, co-founder and CEO of Phasecraft, said: “With the launch of Mondrian, we take a major step toward commercial quantum utility, showing how enhanced quantum algorithms can unlock near-term breakthroughs across sectors that face large-scale optimisation problems. We’re rolling out secure access to Mondrian over the coming month and invite energy, infrastructure and logistics operators to reach out to get involved.”
