Advantech and D3 Embedded Partner to Boost AMRs with Sense & Compute

D3 Embedded

Advantech, a global leader in AIoT and edge computing, has announced a collaboration with D3 Embedded, a worldwide provider of end-to-end edge AI solutions for performance-critical applications. The partnership combines Advantech’s AFE-R360/R760 platforms powered by Intel® Core™ Ultra and RealSense™ Depth D457 GMSL2 cameras with D3 Embedded’s customizable DesignCore® Discovery ISX031 PRO Series GMSL2 cameras to enhance AI-based object sensing and recognition for Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMRs). The joint solution is specifically designed to serve high-demand industrial sectors such as manufacturing, warehouse automation, and retail logistics.

Next-Generation Machine Vision Platform Purpose-Built for AMRs

Modern AMRs depend on highly accurate visual sensing and strong compute performance to achieve real-time object detection and full robotic autonomy. When paired with Advantech’s AFE-R360 and AFE-R760 systems, D3 Embedded’s DesignCore Discovery PRO Series Cameras—featuring the trusted Sony® ISX031 sensor, HDR, LFM, and IP67 protection—deliver high-quality performance in fast-changing lighting environments. The RealSense Depth D457 cameras further enhance perception capabilities with high-bandwidth stereo depth imaging for reliable spatial awareness.

Advantech’s AFE-R360, a 3.5″ SBC, supports up to 8 MIPI-CSI lanes for low-latency visible camera inputs as well as 3x LAN and 3x USB-C for depth and LiDAR sensors. Using a custom camera I/O card, the AFE-R360 enables simultaneous support of up to six GMSL cameras to achieve full 360-degree panoramic coverage. The AFE-R760 system, equipped with a protective chassis, supports up to four GMSL cameras. To streamline development, Advantech provides access to its Robotic Suite-allowing engineers to collect MIPI and GMSL camera data directly from custom ROS nodes for accelerated deployment.
