Digi International Pioneers Digital Transformation with the Introduction of Digi X-ON

Digi

On January 7, 2025, Digi International, a global leader in IoT connectivity solutions, announced the launch of Digi X-ON™, an innovative edge-to-cloud IoT platform designed to provide all necessary components for IoT systems from a single, reliable supplier.

Digi X-ON addresses challenges in integrating, deploying, and scaling industrial IoT systems by combining hardware, software, and cloud connectivity into a unified, secure platform that offers tangible business value. The solution supports various applications, including connected cities, smart utilities, industrial IoT, and smart agriculture.

Mike Rohrmoser, VP of Product Management at Digi International, noted that customers using Digi X-ON across different sectors are achieving excellent results, including improved visibility into livestock health, building automation, digital transformation in supply chains, and better return on investment.

A key customer, FeverTags, is helping ranchers, feedlots, and dairies proactively monitor animal health. The system enables early illness detection, reducing the need for extensive antibiotic treatments, preventing disease spread, and improving animal welfare. This approach not only promotes healthier livestock but also ensures continued weight gain, contributing to more sustainable livestock management.

John Greer, CEO of FeverTags, explained that their solution can identify and treat sick cattle up to 72 hours before visible signs of illness appear, resulting in immediate financial benefits and a significant return on investment for cattle owners. The system also provides cost savings by targeting treatments to sick animals rather than administering antibiotics to the entire herd, benefiting veterinarians, bankers, and insurers who can monitor individual animals or herds remotely.

The Digi X-ON platform facilitates communication over long distances, covering large areas like 250,000-head feed yards or 40,000-acre ranches, without interference from structures or buildings.

Rohrmoser highlighted the role of Digi’s WDS custom engineering services in developing the tag for animal health monitoring, which uses Digi XBee® LR for LoRaWAN. The pre-activated XBee module allows quick and easy tag activation when cattle enter the feedlot, a key advantage of Digi X-ON’s scan-and-go provisioning.

Digi X-ON simplifies the deployment of IoT networks, addressing the complexities of integrating various components such as sensors, gateways, connectivity, software, and cloud platforms. As the industrial IoT market grows, businesses often face challenges with fragmented technology ecosystems, leading to higher costs and integration issues. Digi X-ON overcomes these barriers by offering a unified solution.

Rohrmoser stated that Digi X-ON transforms industrial IoT from a complex multi-vendor system into a streamlined solution, allowing customers to focus on their business objectives rather than technology integration. This solution enables rapid scaling from concept to production, enhancing speed, simplicity, and scalability.

With industrial IoT projected to reach $2.5 billion by 2032, Digi X-ON provides businesses with the tools to lead their industries by eliminating complexity and accelerating time-to-value with a scalable, future-proof solution.
