Telxius , a leading global connectivity provider, is expanding its core and edge network infrastructure to 400 Gbps with a Converged Optical Routing Architecture (CORA) from Juniper Networks, a leader in secure AI-based networks. This will enable simplified network capacity expansion and efficient deployment of enhanced connectivity for metro networks and data center interconnects (DCI). The solution enables connectivity over distances of approximately 100 km to Points of Presence (PoPs) across Spain, the Americas and Europe.

Telxius connects millions of customers worldwide, offering a wide range of capacity, colocation and security services as well as direct internet connectivity through its Tier 1 IP network. Its comprehensive ecosystem combines submarine fiber optic cables and terrestrial backhauls with a total length of over 100,000 km, nearly 100 PoPs in 17 countries and 27 data centers. Telxius seamlessly connects customers with ultra-high capacity, low latency and a robust network.

Telxius will migrate part of its core architecture to Juniper’s CORA and PTX Series Packet Transport Routers to deliver a network that offers robust power and space savings, best-in-class performance and automated operations, freeing up a significant amount of reserved bandwidth and enabling flexible expansion to 400 Gbps. The project will increase connectivity for Telxius’ customers and create a more sustainable architecture by optimizing the network’s scalability and bandwidth efficiency.

The solution leverages leading technology with an IP over Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (IPoDWDM) solution to maximize routing platform capacity, increase link bandwidth, and reach more network locations and customers while eliminating the need to manage and maintain external DWDM equipment.

By deploying Juniper’s CORA, Telxius will simplify the network architecture by merging the previously isolated IP and optical network layers into a unified system that leverages IPoDWDM. Following the project, Telxius expects to achieve increased network reliability for its customers, simplify network operations, and significantly reduce power consumption.

“This project is an important step towards making the Telxius network more scalable and capable through 400G coherent pluggable optics technology to meet the needs of our customers in the ever-growing digital economy. Telxius is at the forefront of innovation, delivering a better customer experience with lower power consumption and a simplified network architecture. We expect a number of vendor-agnostic solutions that will support this architecture and look forward to working with Juniper to create a viable basis for further network expansion , ” said Carlos Dasi, CTO of Telxius.

“400G optics provides a highly reliable solution to further enhance Telxius’ infrastructure and provide an optimal customer experience. By deploying Juniper’s PTX and CORA, Telxius is leading the way in network innovation and Juniper is proud to enable this network transformation. Juniper’s optics solutions will easily integrate the Juniper infrastructure and allow the customer to expand and scale their network according to their business goals. This long-term network transformation will extend the life of the Telxius network and future-proof the company,” said Julius Francis, Senior Director of Product Marketing at Juniper Networks.

The need for uninterrupted global connectivity around the world is ever increasing and we are paving the way for it. Telxius is a leading global connectivity provider, connecting subsea and land networks to data centers around the world. Its comprehensive ecosystem includes eight next-generation subsea cables and terrestrial backhauls totaling over 100,000 km, nearly 100 PoPs in 17 countries and 25 landing stations. Telxius offers a wide range of capacity, colocation and security services as well as direct internet connections over its Tier 1 IP network. Thanks to its ultra-high capacity, low latency and robust networks, Telxius seamlessly connects customers in North and South America, Europe and beyond.
