New Relic eAPM Enhances Kubernetes Visibility & Uptime

New Relic

New Relic is the only platform to enable easy transitions between eAPM and full APM agents without disrupting the UI, dashboards, or alerts

New Relic, the Intelligent Observability company, has introduced eAPM, an advanced capability designed to enhance IT team productivity and ensure higher application uptime. By leveraging eBPF-powered technology, eAPM enables platform engineering teams to automatically discover and monitor all applications running on Kubernetes clusters—without the need for manual instrumentation. This innovation provides instant, in-depth visibility into an organization’s entire Kubernetes ecosystem, spanning multiple runtimes, frameworks, and programming languages. With eAPM integrated into the New Relic APM interface, IT, Ops, DevOps, and platform engineering teams can significantly reduce the time spent on monitoring and troubleshooting, ultimately expediting issue resolution.

“Our research shows engineers spend 30 percent of their time addressing disruptions,” said New Relic CPO Manav Khurana. “At New Relic, we constantly seek every opportunity to increase IT team productivity across all aspects of their jobs. With eAPM, we dramatically simplify the process of Kubernetes performance monitoring. With just a few clicks, IT teams get full insight into all first and third-party applications in Kubernetes in any language, automatically. This translates to valuable time savings and issue resolution.”

Key Benefits of eAPM:

  • Accelerated Incident Resolution: AI-enhanced insights empower teams to debug faster by consolidating golden metrics, transaction details, and database performance data within a single platform.
  • Seamless Deployment: eAPM eliminates the need for code modifications, enabling instant setup, automatic application discovery, and critical span identification through intelligent sampling—minimizing operational overhead and accelerating time-to-value.
  • Simplified Monitoring Process: With no manual configurations or dependencies required, teams can streamline their monitoring workflows, regardless of organizational size.
  • Cost Optimization: By reducing unnecessary tooling complexity and operational overhead, eAPM helps enterprises achieve greater efficiency and cost savings.

Advancing Kubernetes Observability

New Relic has consistently expanded its observability capabilities for Kubernetes, notably through its acquisition of Pixie Labs. By enhancing Pixie and integrating eBPF-powered intelligence with Kubernetes metadata, New Relic contributed Pixie to the Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF) as a Sandbox project in June 2021. With eAPM, the company takes Kubernetes monitoring a step further, enabling automatic, low-overhead metric collection directly through the Linux kernel. This approach combines the efficiency of eBPF-driven data collection with the standardized, vendor-neutral instrumentation of OpenTelemetry, offering users a more streamlined monitoring experience.

“With the value Kubernetes brings to IT and developer teams, there is also increased complexity in workload monitoring,” said IDC Group Vice President Stephen Elliot. “As the adoption of Kubernetes continues robust growth, observability platforms that automate the monitoring process and bring much-needed visibility to enterprises will be sought after. Customers have a need for this transparency as it will play a key role in enabling enterprises to truly unlock measurable business value from Kubernetes.”

Driving Innovation with AI

New Relic’s Intelligent Observability Platform provides additional AI-driven capabilities, including Cloud Cost Intelligence, Pipeline Control, Security Rx, and Service Architecture Intelligence. With recent enhancements, the platform now features 20+ AI-powered innovations and expanded ecosystem partnerships. By integrating Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG) with customer-defined data and third-party sources, New Relic delivers comprehensive intelligent recommendations, enabling teams to take swift, informed actions. This intelligence ensures that users across an organization can optimize business operations, enhance IT performance, and manage costs effectively.

New Relic continues to set the standard in intelligent observability, helping enterprises gain deeper visibility, improve efficiency, and drive innovation across their IT infrastructure.
