Red Hat Speeds Adoption of Developer Hub’s Latest Version

Red Hat

Red Hat, Inc., the world’s leading provider of open-source solutions, has unveiled new capabilities for Red Hat Developer Hub, its enterprise-grade internal developer portal built on the Backstage project. With the launch of Red Hat Developer Hub 1.5, the latest enhancements are designed to drive wider adoption across organizations, providing a more tailored experience to boost developer productivity and efficiency.

Enhancing Developer Productivity in an AI-Driven World

As businesses prioritize intelligent applications—ranging from AI-enabled solutions to edge computing—the complexity of development increases. Organizations must refine their infrastructure and tools to stay ahead in an AI-centric landscape. Internal developer portals play a crucial role in simplifying development workflows, optimizing developer expertise, and accelerating innovation. Red Hat Developer Hub’s latest updates further this mission by streamlining processes and improving time-to-market.

Actionable Insights with Advanced Analytics

A well-adopted internal developer portal can dramatically enhance productivity, but historically, it has been challenging to track its usage and effectiveness. The new Adoption Insights feature, available as a developer preview, introduces an analytical dashboard that provides platform engineers with valuable data on how their teams engage with Red Hat Developer Hub.

This dashboard delivers a granular view of template and plugin usage, visit metrics, and other key indicators. Armed with these insights, organizations can pinpoint areas of success and identify opportunities for improvement, leading to stronger adoption and a more engaged developer community.

Flexible Customization with Dynamic Plugins

Every organization has a unique approach to application development, necessitating access to curated tools tailored to their specific needs. To address this, the Red Hat Developer Hub Extensions Catalog, available in developer preview, offers a streamlined view of more than 60 dynamic plugins, including both community and verified Red Hat extensions.

This catalog provides developers with a simple interface to explore and integrate plugins, allowing for greater customization and flexibility. Moreover, Red Hat Developer Hub’s dynamic plugin framework enables teams to manage and modify plugins—including custom-built ones—at runtime, eliminating the need for portal redeployment. This significantly accelerates the onboarding of new tools and capabilities, ensuring a seamless developer experience.

Faster Iteration with Local Development Support

To further simplify portal customization, Red Hat has introduced RHDH Local, a lightweight, self-contained version of Red Hat Developer Hub that runs locally on developers’ machines. Available as a developer preview, RHDH Local allows platform engineers to make and test portal changes more efficiently, reducing development cycle times.

With RHDH Local, developers can experiment with templates, test plugins, and validate software catalogs without deploying Red Hat Developer Hub on a Kubernetes cluster. Running in a containerized environment, RHDH Local can be launched in seconds and shut down just as quickly, enabling rapid iteration and troubleshooting before pushing updates to production. By streamlining local development, this tool enhances efficiency and improves the overall developer experience.
