Amazon has officially launched the AWS Asia Pacific (New Zealand) Region, introducing three Availability Zones to serve developers, enterprises, startups, and public sector organizations with local, secure, and low-latency cloud infrastructure. The launch marks a significant step in Amazon’s global expansion, with a planned investment of more than NZ$7.5 billion expected to add NZ$10.8 billion to New Zealand’s GDP and create over 1,000 full-time equivalent jobs annually. “The new AWS Region in New Zealand will help serve the growing demand for cloud services across the country and empower organizations of all sizes to accelerate their digital transformation,” said Prasad Kalyanaraman, vice president of Infrastructure Services at AWS. “With this launch, businesses can now leverage advanced AWS technologies, from core cloud capabilities to artificial intelligence and machine learning, all while meeting local data residency requirements. By investing in New Zealand’s digital infrastructure, we’re proud to support the country’s economic growth, foster innovation, and help position it as a technology hub in the Asia Pacific region.”

AWS is also focused on workforce development, having already trained more than 50,000 individuals in cloud skills toward its 100,000 target through AWS Academy, AWS Educate, and AWS Skill Builder. With partners such as Accenture, Deloitte, and Datacom, and customers including Xero, Kiwibank, TVNZ, and the University of Auckland, the AWS Asia Pacific (New Zealand) Region strengthens the country’s technology ecosystem while aligning with Amazon’s long-term vision of driving innovation, sustainability, and digital growth across Asia Pacific.
