Quantum Computing Inc. Finalizes $110M Acquisition of Luminar Semiconductor to Strengthen Photonics and Quantum Technology Strategy

Quantum Computing

Quantum Computing Inc., a Nasdaq-listed company that focuses on quantum optics and integrated photonics technology, has completed the acquisition of Luminar Semiconductor, Inc. (“LSI”), a wholly owned subsidiary of Luminar Technologies, Inc., in an all-cash transaction valued at $110 million. This is a significant step in the strategic plan of QCi to build a vertically integrated and product-oriented photonics and quantum technology platform that is expected to produce annual revenue and enhance its strategic plan. The acquisition combines the pre-existing strengths of LSI in lasers, detectors, advanced packaging, and manufacturing with the thin-film lithium niobate (TFLN) integrated photonics platform of QCi, enabling QCi to control the entire photonics signal chain, from light generation to detection and processing, and allowing it to develop compact, high-performance quantum hardware that can function at room temperature and be mass-produced. “This acquisition allows us to move forward with a combination that is highly strategic for QCi,” said Yuping Huang, CEO and Chairman of the Board of QCi, underscoring the importance of LSI to QCi’s technology roadmap and the deep technical expertise of the LSI team to their joint success.

LSI will operate as a wholly owned subsidiary of QCi, maintaining its long-standing commercial relationships in aerospace, defense and industrial markets and providing near-term revenue visibility, while the combined platform positions QCi as a vertically integrated photonics leader with a fully domestic manufacturing footprint aligned with demand for U.S.-based technology solutions and reshoring initiatives. The deal enhances QCi’s ability to serve government, defense and aerospace customers and accelerates the company’s transition from technology innovation to scalable manufacturing, reinforcing its mission to put quantum-enabled solutions into the hands of users. Additional details on integration plans and future milestones are expected in the coming months.
