Siemens Healthineers and Mayo Clinic Deepen Strategic Collaboration to Transform Patient Care

Siemens

Both Siemens Healthineers and the Mayo Clinic have recently declared the development of a strategic partnership to enhance patient lives in the treatment and management of complex and chronic diseases like neurodegenerative diseases, prostate cancers, and metastatic liver tumors through the incorporation of leading-edge imaging technology and artificial intelligence. Some of the key areas of development in the partnership include the development of artificial intelligence-enabled MRI protocols for the improvement of patient diagnoses and monitoring. Another key area of development is through the innovation of surgical care management via digital twin technology to improve the patient experience. Another key area of development through the partnership is the investigation of artificial intelligence’s potential in reducing biopsies in the treatment of prostate cancers and the incorporation of minimally invasive and advanced imaging in the diagnosis and treatment of such diseases. Further collaboration opportunities include work on the clinical translation of minimally invasive image-guided interventional suites for the accurate detection and treatment of liver metastasis, development of the Ultra-high Field MRI innovation center to help leverage the technology for the diagnosis of complex neurological state conditions with the added bonus of increased contrast, and the integration of Whole Body PET/CT & PET/MR innovation centers for the development and implementation of theranostics technology for accurate diagnosis and treatment through the use of anatomical and metabolic information.

“Our goal is to make care more precise, less invasive, and more responsive to each patient’s needs,” said Eric Williamson, M.D., professor and chair of diagnostic radiology at Mayo Clinic. “By expanding our collaboration, we can bring advanced imaging, artificial intelligence, and innovative treatment approaches directly into everyday clinical care, potentially helping patients receive earlier diagnoses, more personalized treatment plans, and better outcomes.” Added John Kowal, president and head of the Americas at Siemens Healthineers: “Improving the diagnosis and treatment of neurodegenerative disease and cancer is core to our purpose as a company. Our collaboration with Mayo Clinic creates significant opportunities to help extend the quantity and quality of patients’ lives.” Such an expansion in partnership is indicative of the joint dedication to the field of precision medicine, innovation, and bringing revolutionary technologies, which were developed in research, to the patients in need, by helping them tackle some of the toughest health challenges.
