As a public figure with more than 200k followers on social media, Audrey Tang has participated in countless interviews, but this will be her first venture as a video-podcast host. Tang states that “[This project] is important to me on a personal level. It is my first self-hosted podcast and first foray by TaiwanPlus into this potential-packed medium.”
The guest of the first episode is YouTube Co-Founder Steve Chen. Chen, who is also a key member of Taiwan’s digital startup ecosystem, takes audiences back to the creation of the very first video uploaded on YouTube. He also discusses his choice to return to Taiwan with his family in 2019, influenced in part by the blossoming startup culture and tech-oriented environment in Taipei. “There’s still plenty of opportunity and potential for global companies to come out of Taiwan, just as if we were trying to create a company in Silicon Valley for the global market—I think it is possible to do from Taiwan.” Chen remarks on the podcast.
Sandra Oudkirk, the American Institute in Taiwan Director, is also one of Audrey’s interviewees. As the first woman director of American Institute in Taiwan, Director Oudkirk is a pioneer in her respective field. During the show, they exchanged views on digital diplomacy, democracy, and innovation.
