OneSpan Sets Strategic Agreement to Acquire Build38, Elevating Mobile App Security Capabilities

OneSpan

OneSpan Inc., a global leader in digital security solutions, announced it has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Build38, a prominent provider of next-generation mobile application protection technology. This acquisition is designed to significantly enhance OneSpan’s mobile security portfolio, supporting enterprises and financial institutions in defending against an increasingly complex threat landscape.

The acquisition is also anticipated to enhance OneSpan’s App Shielding services by combining the expertise of Build38 with their sophisticated SDK-based security solutions, which enable the seamless integration of in-app, cloud, and artificial intelligence technologies. This expansion will enable their customers to harness increasing levels of threat data and information on mobile devices.

With mobile channels now the primary driver of customer engagement for financial services and other digital businesses, the combined solution addresses growing demand for multi-layered protection that enhances both user experience and operational safety.

OneSpan intends to integrate Build38’s Runtime Application Self-Protection (RASP) approach across its mobile security stack to deliver industry-leading in-app defenses that mitigate threats targeting applications and endpoints. Build38’s technology is recognized as a Sample Vendor in the Gartner® Hype Cycle™ for Application Security, 2025, further validating its role in advancing mobile protection strategies.

Victor Limongelli, CEO of OneSpan, emphasized the business impact of the transaction: “Our goal is to provide leading financial institutions with the most complete protection for their customer interactions covering strong authentication, transaction signing, application protection, and fraud detection. Build38’s technology already protects over 250 million endpoints. Its SDK enables banks to incorporate next-generation RASP protection within their mobile apps and provides more comprehensive data about the mobile devices and the threats facing them. As mobile threats surge and the market moves toward embedded security and AI-driven defenses, we believe this acquisition will position us ahead of the curve and validate our strategy to meet the evolving needs of our customers.”

Dr. Christian Schläger, CEO of Build38, commented on the strategic alignment: “Build38 was founded to redefine mobile application security through next-generation RASP, combining cloud delivered services and AI innovation. Joining OneSpan will allow us to scale this vision globally and deliver best-in-class protection to banks and businesses that demand the highest security standards.”

This milestone follows OneSpan’s recent strategic initiatives to enhance its cybersecurity leadership, including the acquisition of Nok Nok Labs Inc. to advance passwordless authentication and a strategic investment in ThreatFabric to expand fraud prevention capabilities.

The transaction is expected to close by March 2026, subject to customary regulatory approvals and closing conditions.
