Rack mountable 8 bay hard disk dock with 10G Ethernet, Blackmagic Cloud sync and HDMI monitoring output for low cost backup of large media files!
Blackmagic Design introduced Blackmagic Cloud Backup 8, a powerful new rack-mounted backup solution that enables fast, affordable media file backups using standard computer hard drives. Designed for professional post-production and on-set environments, this 1RU unit offers seamless integration with Blackmagic Cloud, making it ideal for backing up collaborative projects in DaVinci Resolve.
Engineered for high-performance workflows, Blackmagic Cloud Backup 8 features eight independent hard disk bays, four built-in 10G Ethernet ports for ultra-fast data transfer, and an HDMI output for real-time monitoring of storage activity. Available now through Blackmagic Design resellers worldwide, the unit is priced at US$1,495.
The solution will be showcased at NAB 2025, booth #SL216, where attendees can experience its capabilities firsthand.
Optimized for Studio and On-Set Use
Built with a space-efficient rack mount design, Blackmagic Cloud Backup 8 fits seamlessly into studio environments alongside other network equipment. It’s also well-suited for on-location workflows, including digital imaging technician (DIT) carts, ensuring critical camera media is safely backed up in real-time. All eight hard disks can be accessed simultaneously over the network, delivering robust backup redundancy and performance.
High-Speed Connectivity for Demanding Media Workflows
With four independent 10G Ethernet connections, Blackmagic Cloud Backup 8 is optimized for maximum throughput. Its internal processing engine is specifically tuned to leverage the full bandwidth potential of modern 10G networks, allowing creative teams to back up large, high-resolution digital film files quickly—even in complex, multi-camera productions.
Global Media Sync via Blackmagic Cloud
The integration with Blackmagic Cloud empowers teams to share a local cache of media while maintaining global synchronization. Media is automatically duplicated across multiple sites, enhancing data protection and enabling zero-latency collaboration. Local copies ensure instant access, while the system performs continuous background backups. Once a project is finished, it remains archived on the backup disks, freeing up high-speed primary storage for active projects.
The platform also supports DaVinci Resolve’s proxy workflow, intelligently prioritizing the upload of proxy files before syncing camera originals. This ensures that projects can be reopened quickly and efficiently—no matter the location.

Real-Time Monitoring with HDMI Output
One of the standout features is the built-in HDMI monitoring port, which allows users to connect a standard display to view live status information. The intuitive visual interface shows a storage map, active read/write operations, Ethernet data throughput, and disk capacity indicators, providing instant insight into system performance and sync status.
Local Control, No Subscriptions Required
Blackmagic Cloud Backup 8 provides complete local control over data storage with no recurring fees, no subscriptions, and no data tracking. A free configuration utility is included for both Mac and Windows, allowing users to manage the system without the need for cloud-based dashboards or IT support. This feature is especially critical for workflows requiring secure, air-gapped environments that adhere to strict security standards.
Easy Setup and Unified Utility Software
Setup is streamlined using the included Blackmagic Cloud Backup 8 utility, compatible across the company’s full line of storage products—including Blackmagic Cloud Stores and Cloud Dock. Users can plug in the unit, launch the utility, and be up and running in minutes. For more advanced network configurations, the same software provides full customization and sync setup capabilities.
“Customers have been looking for not only an affordable storage solution to back up their media, but also one that is private that they can have complete local control over,” said Grant Petty, Blackmagic Design CEO. “Blackmagic Cloud Backup 8 gives customers an affordable yet high performance solution for not only archiving completed projects, but for primary storage as well. It’s a great way of backing up a lot of media fast and a great way for customers to sync to Blackmagic Cloud in order to backup projects in DaVinci Resolve!”
