Verimatrix , the leading provider of security solutions for the modern connected world, announced that HBL Microfinance Bank Ltd (HBL MfB) is among the latest financial institutions in South Asia to deploy the Verimatrix Extended Threat Defense (XTD ) App Shielding Service to protect FirstPay, the bank’s mobile wallet app.
Earlier this month, HBL MfB added Verimatrix XTD protection to its FirstPay mobile app, which has been downloaded over 1 million times on the Google Play Store and Apple App Store to date. Verimatrix XTD significantly reduces the likelihood that cybercriminals will use the app to break into connected organizations. At the same time, the latest obfuscation, anti-tampering and anti-reverse engineering techniques are used to prevent threats before they can compromise both the mobile app and the business.
“We are pleased that HBL Microfinance Bank’s FirstPay mobile app now gives customers the peace of mind that Verimatrix’s XTD App Shielding Service proactively provides the necessary protection against attackers attempting to exploit app-related vulnerabilities,” said Tom Powledge , Head of Cybersecurity Business at Verimatrix. “Through this strategic commitment to maximize protection during the ongoing development process, XTD significantly reduces the risk of attacks while providing the visibility and insight necessary to identify and remediate potential threats. This is particularly important for mobile applications, which provide services as basic as banking to so many people.”
Mustafa Jamshed Gillani, Chief Digital & Financial Inclusion Officer at HBL MfB, said: “This partnership is an important milestone in our journey towards digital financial inclusion and providing secure mobile banking services. At HBL Microfinance Bank, our customers are the focus. That’s why our mission is to provide convenience and financial security with FirstPay. As a mobile wallet backed by a leading microfinance bank, Firstpay is on a mission to provide digital lending solutions to the unbanked.”
Waqas Haider, Chief Information Security Officer at HBL MfB said, “In line with our leadership’s vision of digital financial inclusion and digital banking for the unbanked, we are strongly focused on providing secure and robust mobile banking services to our valued customers. We put the regulatory requirements at the forefront of our safe design concept.
