Bitdefender & secunet team up for EU cybersecurity

Bitdefender

Data sovereignty, control and processing in Germany and the EU in accordance with regulatory requirements

Bitdefender, a Europe-based leader in cybersecurity, announced a strategic partnership with secunet, a company specializing in digital sovereignty and the protection of critical environments such as government agencies. In Germany, Bitdefender now offers GravityZone , its holistic cybersecurity, risk management, and compliance platform, in the sovereign cloud of SysEleven (a secunet company). Customer and configuration data, security-relevant events, and telemetry data are processed exclusively in the EU.

The Bitdefender and secunet partnership supports companies of all sizes that must meet strict data sovereignty criteria. This particularly applies to industries such as financial services, healthcare, education, critical infrastructure, energy, and manufacturing.

The partnership also optimizes Bitdefender’s channel ecosystem for cybersecurity offerings. It enables partners and managed service providers (MSPs) to leverage the GravityZone platform, hosted in Germany, in the SysEleven OpenStack Cloud for customers with high data sovereignty and compliance requirements, and to manage these environments for them.

Digital sovereignty under pressure

Recent discussions have clarified that U.S.-based companies may, under certain circumstances, be required to provide data access upon government request. This has caused considerable uncertainty among European companies that rely on cloud and software services hosted abroad. Many European companies are therefore now launching digital sovereignty initiatives as a high priority, especially when handling highly sensitive information such as security data.

Through its partnership with secunet, EU-based Bitdefender can ensure digital sovereignty without any backdoors. The integration provides companies with advanced cybersecurity capabilities to protect their business operations and comply with strict European and German regulations such as NIS2, DORA, GDPR, and ISO.

At the heart of the initiative is Bitdefender GravityZone , a comprehensive, unified security, risk analytics, and compliance platform hosted on the SysEleven OpenStack Cloud. The platform provides advanced endpoint protection (EPP), endpoint detection and response (EDR), extended detection and response (XDR), and cloud-native security . It covers the entire attack chain while providing detailed context for detections that seamlessly extend to Bitdefender’s Managed Detection and Response (MDR) services.

The certified SysEleven OpenStack Cloud

The SysEleven OpenStack Cloud offers a robust, secure, and scalable infrastructure specifically designed for companies with critical IT and stringent compliance requirements. Berlin-based cloud and managed Kubernetes specialist SysEleven is certified by the German Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) according to ISO 27001 based on IT-Grundschutz (IT Baseline Protection). This makes SysEleven one of only two sovereign cloud providers in Germany to boast the triad of IT-Grundschutz, C5 certification, and ISO 27001 certification.

By hosting GravityZone in SysEleven’s certified cloud in Germany, GravityZone data such as endpoint security events/telemetry, detections, and configuration data can be processed and stored in the EU.

“Companies across Europe require security solutions that provide advanced threat prevention, protection, detection, and countermeasures without compromising data sovereignty,” said Andrei Florescu, President and General Manager of the Bitdefender Business Solutions Group. “The partnership with secunet enables precisely this, giving regulated industries the confidence they need to implement state-of-the-art cybersecurity solutions while maintaining full control over how their data is stored, processed, and secured. With GravityZone on the SysEleven OpenStack Cloud, customers can be confident that their data stays in the EU. It also makes it easier for them to comply with regulations such as GDPR, NIS2, DORA, and other requirements.”

“With our secure and certified cloud infrastructure, we offer Bitdefender the opportunity to seamlessly deploy its field-proven cybersecurity platform,” said Andreas Rückriegel, CEO of SysEleven and Vice President of Cloud at secunet. “This partnership is a unique and necessary step toward greater digital resilience. By combining the technologies and expertise of two trusted European market leaders, we enable companies and government agencies to drive innovation while ensuring the highest levels of security and compliance.”
