AWS and Lumen Technologies have announced a new collaboration aimed at transforming how enterprises connect to the cloud. By integrating network infrastructure directly into cloud services, the partnership introduces AWS Interconnect – last mile, with Lumen as the first provider to deliver this capability through its Cloud Interconnect platform.
Traditionally, establishing private cloud connectivity has required multiple vendors, complex configurations, and extended deployment timelines. The new solution streamlines this process by enabling organizations to create secure, high-speed connections from offices, data centers, or remote sites to AWS in just a few clicks via the AWS Console and Lumen’s platform.
“Cloud and network infrastructure can no longer operate separately; modern applications demand they work as one,” said Jim Fowler, Chief Technology and Product Officer at Lumen Technologies. “Cloud providers are increasingly integrating connectivity as a cloud service, and Lumen’s network enables that seamless experience. Together with AWS, we’re simplifying how enterprises connect to the cloud, helping them reduce complexity, move faster and support today’s demanding applications.”

The integration combines AWS’s cloud capabilities with Lumen’s extensive network, which spans more than 340,000 route miles and connects a vast number of enterprise locations. This unified approach eliminates the need for multiple intermediaries, reduces manual setup, and allows businesses to scale bandwidth on demand, significantly accelerating deployment times.
Industry analysts point out that enterprises are increasingly demanding that their network infrastructure be as flexible and easy to use as cloud environments. Collaborating AWS and Lumen, by connecting network operations and cloud together, are not only meeting this need but also ensuring that enterprises can improve their performance and operational efficiencies.
Industries that rely on large volumes of data such as healthcare finance manufacturing, and media will benefit the most from a solution that allows fast, reliable, and secure sharing of data. Sectors like healthcare finance manufacturing, and media where speed, reliability, and secure data transfer are paramountare expected to benefit the most.
Therefore, the partnership between these two companies doesn’t only provide a network extension to the cloud but also a management platform through which businesses will be able to leverage their cloud solutions much more effectively.
