The founding members of the Visa Economic Empowerment Institute Advisory Board are:

  • Dr. Axel Weber (Chair) , former Chairman of UBS and former President of the Deutsche Bundesbank. Weber is currently a senior global advisor at Boston Consulting Group and a member of the advisory board of fintech provider Raisin. “I am honored to serve as Chair of the Visa Economic Empowerment Institute’s inaugural Advisory Board,” said Weber. “We must address the persistent economic opportunity gaps that make it difficult for everyone to participate equally in the global payments ecosystem. I am confident that our collective knowledge and expertise at the Visa Economic Empowerment Institute will contribute to significant advances in public policy aimed at empowering all.”
  • The Rt Hon. Lord Hill , Member of the House of Lords and former EU Commissioner for Financial Stability, Financial Services and the Capital Markets Union. “The biggest policy challenge we face in Europe is how we can increase the competitiveness of our economy and accelerate growth. If we fail here, we will fail at everything else. “I hope that the Visa Economic Empowerment Institute’s research will help decision-makers understand what they need to do to strengthen their economies and develop growth opportunities for businesses,” said Lord Hill.
  • Ambassador Koji Tsuruoka , former Japanese ambassador to the United Kingdom and chief negotiator for international trade agreements such as the Trans-Pacific Partnership. Tsuruoka worked in the Japanese Foreign Ministry for 43 years. “I know firsthand the impact strategic and international collaboration can have on expanding access to the global economy,” Tsuruoka said. “It is an exciting next chapter to join the Visa Economic Empowerment Institute Advisory Board from its inception to unlock the potential and growth in payments.”

“With the Visa Economic Empowerment Institute, Visa is consistently strengthening its mission – to empower everyone, everywhere. Axel, Koji and Jonathan share our passion for economic empowerment and will bring new perspectives to the payments policy discourse,” said Kelly Mahon Tullier, Vice Chair, Chief People and Corporate Affairs Officer at Visa. “We are pleased to incorporate the strategic direction of three global leaders whose collective expertise spans nearly a century of knowledge.”
