GitLab has announced an expanded collaboration with Google Cloud to enable enterprise teams to build and manage AI-driven software development workflows using the GitLab Duo Agent Platform powered by Vertex AI. The integration lets AI agents in GitLab use foundation models, like Google’s Gemini models. All actions stay under GitLab’s compliance rules, access controls, and audit systems. This means AI-generated outputs, like code suggestions, are traceable in DevSecOps workflows. These workflows include issues, repositories, CI pipelines, and security checks.

The partnership also enables organizations to run GitLab’s AI Gateway on Google Cloud infrastructure, eliminating the need for separate AI provisioning and allowing customers to align AI usage with existing Google Cloud commitments. “As AI agents become central to how teams build software, they need strong models and a governed environment to be effective in the enterprise,” the announcement noted. The collaboration also provides flexibility through Vertex AI’s Model Garden and GitLab’s Bring Your Own Model option, allowing enterprises to balance performance, cost, and regulatory needs while scaling AI-powered software development securely.
