microchip Acquires VORAGO Technologies Microchip Technology has announced the acquisition of VORAGO Technologies, a privately owned manufacturer of radiation-hardened and radiation-tolerant MCUs (microcontrollers) and MPUs (microprocessors). The purchase was announced on 9 October 2026, and includes semiconductor products that are resistant to radiation and VORAGO’s own patented HARDSIL process technology in the catalogue of the company’s aerospace, defence, and space tech divisions. The HARDSIL semiconductors make it quicker and less expensive to develop a radiation-hardened chip, and they improve the resilience to radiation of existing products without requiring a redesign.

VORAGO’s products are intended for systems that are mission-critical and need the most resistant levels of weather, temperature, and radiation resistance, as seen in satellites, space exploration, defence, and industrial applications. The deal also brings specialist design knowhow that Microchip can leverage in its broader range of semiconductor-related products, as more commercial space and defence projects rely on tough electronics.”From terrestrial defense systems to satellite and space-based platforms, our aerospace and defense customers are designing systems that must operate reliably in increasingly harsh and complex environments,” said Steve Sanghi, Microchip’s CEO and President. “The acquisition of VORAGO strengthens our ability to support development in these demanding markets and reinforces our commitment to investing in technologies that align with our long-term growth strategy.”
