Workato Unveils Open-Source Developer Toolkit to Simplify AI-Driven Automation Development

Workato

Workato has announced the general availability of Workato Labs, a new open-source project that is intended to support developers and AI assistants in building, managing and deploying automation workflows effectively. This initial release features an open-source toolkit with a command-line interface (CLI) tool called wk built using the Go language and other tools that allow developers to create, test and visualize workflows created with Workato (also referred to as recipes). Specifically designed to be used together with AI assistants like Claude Code, Cursor, Codex and GitHub Copilot, the open-source toolkit offers developers code-first access to Workato without leaving their favorite integrated development environment (IDE), terminal or version control system. The toolkit is equipped with Recipe Skills that help AI assistants to create correct workflows.

Recipe Linter that allows deterministic validation of recipes locally and Recipe Visualizer that allows visualization of recipes within development environments including VS Code, Cursor and Windsurf. The toolkit also supports tasks such as enterprise integration migrations, Git-based asset management and AI-assisted workflow creation. “AI coding assistants are core to how developers build,” said Adam Seligman, Chief Technology Officer and General Manager of AI Incubation at Workato. “Developers love code, and AI agents do too. Workato Labs extends Workato into developer tools, making it easier to build, validate, and manage Workato projects using the same tools developers already trust, like Claude Code and Codex.” Early adopters, including onXmaps, have already integrated the CLI into existing development practices.
