Cloudflare supports enhanced data protection features on the Microsoft Edge Secure Network

Cloudflare

Cloudflare, Inc, the leading cloud connectivity company, announced that Microsoft Edge is launching its Edge Secure Network feature using Privacy Proxy Cloudflare’s technology – a key component of Cloudflare’s data protection stack . This integration allows Microsoft Edge users to protect their privacy while browsing the web without being tracked across websites.

When people browse the Internet, they leave a trail of their activities: where they have been, how they spent their time on a particular website, what they may have purchased, and other private information. This type of behavior is often tracked or monitored to increase advertising, monitor the activities of prominent figures, or censor content deemed harmful or offensive. This creates a large collection of personal data that is stolen and traded by threat actors. To combat this abuse, routing a user’s traffic through a secure, privacy-respecting network can mask the device’s IP addresses,

Combined with the Microsoft Edge Secure Network, Cloudflare’s approach to robust data protection improves internet users’ ability to access potentially insecure URLs – such as those served over an insecure HTTP connection – by routing traffic through an encrypted tunnel . This integration provides Edge users with the following benefits:

  • Automatic browser traffic security: Users can enable the Microsoft Edge Secure Network to automatically protect their browsing traffic by sending requests over the Cloudflare network and hiding their IP address and browser metadata from third-party trackers.
  • Connection encryption: The integration encrypts a user’s connection to the websites they visit to prevent their metadata from being accessible to third-party trackers.
  • Prevention of online tracking: When the Edge Secure Network is enabled for a website, Internet service providers cannot collect browsing data, such as the addresses of websites visited, and online companies cannot use IP addresses for profiling and sending Use targeted advertising to users.
  • Location data suppression: With Microsoft’s Edge Secure Network, user traffic will appear as if it came from a Cloudflare IP address. However, location accuracy for search results, directions for maps and social media content is retained.

“ Current privacy headlines are often sensationalistic and miss the heart of the problem, which violates users’ rights to protect their privacy and personal information. While legislation and calls to action can help keep up with the fast pace of the Internet, it is imperative to focus on proactive measures such as adopting technologies to improve privacy,” said Matthew Prince, CEO at Cloudflare. “ This integration with Microsoft Edge provides internet users with security when connecting to public Wi-Fi in cafes or airports and shopping online, and hides the ‘original sin of the internet’ – IP addresses.”

“ We welcome the collaboration with Cloudflare. “The company has an excellent reputation for developing data protection technologies and is heavily involved in developing the next generation of open protocols to strengthen data protection,” said Andrew Nolan, Principal Product Manager for Microsoft Edge. “ This integration ensures privacy protection without sacrificing performance, so our users are protected when they need it most. The integration of privacy technologies into the Microsoft Edge browser underscores our efforts to provide our users with the best possible security and peace of mind that their privacy online remains protected.”
