Data scientists often have to transform gigabytes or terabytes of data gathered from trillions of sources—into valuable insights so they can find new ways to make their data work harder . Spatial analysis has become a critical component of the data science toolkit, because it enriches all forms of data with geographic context. That way, analysts can discover patterns, make predictions, and optimize workflows to create operational efficiencies. To support the needs of these professionals, Esri , the world leader in location intelligence, has partnered with Databricks., the data and AI company. The collaboration will provide users with the advanced spatial analysis capabilities of Esri’s ArcGIS software easily accessible on Databricks’ big data platform, the Databricks Lakehouse Platform.

“The Databricks Lakehouse platform merges data engineering, data science, machine learning and analytics into a single platform, and in many cases, clients also need a powerful spatial component,” said Roger Murff, vice president of partnerships for Databricks products. “By having geoanalytics tools that run directly on Databricks, users are able to perform spatial analysis on a scale that Databricks is used to.”

Esri’s offerings that integrate with the Databricks Lakehouse platform are ArcGIS GeoAnalytics Engine and the Big Data Toolkit, built specifically for users to perform spatial analysis on large data sets.

“Organizations and data professionals using Databricks need access to spatial tools for where they do their day-to-day work,” said Richard Cooke, Esri’s director of global business development. “With the solutions Esri provides, data scientists can access the most comprehensive set of spatial analysis tools available natively within the Databricks environment.”
